![]() ![]() This shop is what one imagines a great yarn shop should be- beautiful yarn & accessories (slightly overpriced), lovely staff, and a cozy tight space. Every interaction Ive had with her leaves me surprised she could make a small business run with such horrible people skills. When she is there, staff is still helpful but they are brisk under her watchful eye. I can tell when she is out of the shop because the staff is lighthearted and laughing, joking with each other and with customers. The sour disposition of the owner (or just boss?) makes shopping here an uncomfortable/unnecessary experience. I have since found and am buying from other yarn shops in Seattle. (And, the purchase would have been over $100.00) The lack of professionalism was abhorent and its a shame because Acorn Street is my neighborhood yarn store and I was a very good customer. Although initially I had come into the store to purchase some yarn they had ordered for me, I did not purchase it however because of this employees rudeness. I overheard one of the employees, (her first name starts with a J and she has worked there for a long time) ask another employee what I was doing in the store and started gossiping about me when I was completely minding my own business. I was treated very rudely while I was looking through knitting books for a project to take on a long road trip. I had a horrible experience in this store last summer and because of it, I will never, never go back. As a new knitter, I want a store where I feel like I can ask questions (simple ones like is this enough yarn for _? or what size needles would you recommend?) and get a helpful, kind response. Again, Im a new knitter, so I dont know how to do everything (like use the yarn ball winder)-if youre working in a knitting store, shouldnt part of your job be to reassure newbies and not make them feel extremely unwelcome? Its too bad that this woman was so very unpleasant that I dont want to go back. ![]() It was extremely uncomfortable, and this woman clearly had no interest in making us feel comfortable. She then proceeded to stand and wait for us to finish without making any chitchat or even smiling at us. She then flipped almost all of the lights in the store off while we were still trying to wind the yarn! At this point it was about 1 minute until their official closing time, which made it especially rude, but I think it would have been quite rude even if it had been a couple of minutes after. She kind of grudgingly came over and contemptuously fixed what we had been doing wrong. The last remaining employee (after reading the review below I wonder if shes the owner) was about five feet away at the cash register and heard my friend and I talking as we tried to figure out what to do, but she never offered any help. ![]() I got that skein wound because shed set it up for me, but I couldnt get the next skein to wind. One staff member stayed to help me for a minute before leaving (it was still about five minutes before closing time). I purchased my yarn and then went to the ball winder, which is when things got worse. I went to the cash register about 15 minutes before closing, and the woman there asked what I was making and proceeded to tell me, "That wont be much of a scarf if you use those needles." That might be helpful information (except Id already knitted a scarf on smaller needles, so I knew it would work for what I wanted), but the way it was said made me feel really defensive - like it was said with a nasty attitude, not a helpful one. ![]() My most recent experience was shopping there in the evening, shortly before closing. I had one okay experience there, but since then Ive had two rather unpleasant ones, and I wont be back. I just recently started knitting, and I was really happy to find a yarn store close to my house. ![]()
